I needed salad makings, so I went over to Safeway since they had great e-clips for lettuce, bananas, avocado’s and blueberries. Instead of using points for fuel, (since I had so many expiring from taking advantage of the 10X the points for a particular gift card in January; which was expiring.) I decided to convert my fuel points into grocery dollars.
This requires the Safeway/Albertsons app. To make the conversion to grocery dollars click on the rewards tab and it will let you know how many points you have. Then go to “grocery rewards” which identifies how many points are needed to exchange for $$ off your next grocery purchase. Depending on the amount of points you want to use, determines how many dollars you get to deduct from your grocery bill. Select “use points.”
Shop as you normally would and at check out it, when you plug in your phone number, (because that is the number that identifies you as a member), the grocery points will automatically convert to dollars and come off the total.
While shopping, I always look for the “Manager Specials” and scored with Shamrock cream for only .99 cents a pint. Well this ain’t the 1980’s and I know a good deal when I see it, so I grabbed up five of those babies. I knew my wife would whip up something mighty tasty with that cream 🙂
My best practices are to look for deals in the ads and in the refrigerated section in the stores as there are usually marked downs within a week of the expiration date. I am aware of e-clips and take advantage of those as well. Buy what you need and intend to use. Don’t just be a bargain junkie that wastes money and food. There’s no deal if you end up tossing out your bargains.
As you can see- I did great today. The original bill was $56.04. After executing my best practices it was only $3.84.
Yee haw!!!
Now that’s one helluva Grandpa deal!

You bet I’m going to make some special yumminess from all those great cream deals. Go grandpa deals!!
That’s great! I’d be all about getting 5 creams for that kind of price. Plus if you aren’t a baker just throw that cream in a food processor or kitchen aid and make some homemade butter. 2 for the price of one 😉 I’m heading on my apps right not to E clip!

Great idea. Or even make some creme brulee or ice cream. Go Daddio!
