Merci to anyone who came along this virtual pilgrimage. The time has passed so quickly, yet it is also time to head home. Time marches on, with or without our permission🤪
Our day began with a quickie look at the Louvre. I say quickie, because it is reported to take 2 days to go through all the exhibits. We got 2 hours! We hit the ground running.
Who wouldn’t want to fit this fine piece in to your limited time?
Or this one? I think it was an ancient tp dispenser? In all seriousness, there were incredible works and isn’t beauty in the eye of the beholder anyway?
The Louvre displays 30,000 pieces which is only 10% of it’s entire collection. Originally this building was a fortified castle to hold off enemies. The longest gallery is 400 meters long. The largest piece is called, Wedding at Cana and it is 400 square meters. It has so many aspects to it, you could stare at it all day.
With all that human action surrounding Jesus, I am not surprised Jesus’ face looks like he is dazed and overwhelmed. I know we’re a hot mess at times.
Most art experts agree that the Mona Lisa in the Louvre is the original piece that took DaVinci sixteen years to complete. The model was purported to be a wealthy, married woman who was mourning the death of her child. Supposedly, they hired a clown to try and make her smile.
All and all this pilgrimage through Mater Dei was really fantastic. Prayers, Mass daily, reflections of the day, fellowship, fun and growth in faith is guaranteed. We will always cherish this time in France, those who we shared it with, and an appreciation for all the preparation in the background, to make it run so smoothly. Yes, it is like herding cats at times. Working with people can be complicated and a great blessing as well. We met many wonderful new friends.
Last but not least, my memory of the pastry, food and chocolate was not exaggerated by time. It absolutely is fantastic here. If it wasn’t for all the miles we walked and mountains of stairs, I would have had to ask for a triple wide seat on the plane. 🗼🥰 Still, I don’t know how Parisians stay so trim. It’s simply not fair. How can they walk past all this yumminess every day and not go nuts?
Due to being on pilgrimage and a tight schedule, I had to wait until today to linger and enjoy the best of what Paris has to offer on the plate. Merci and au revoir until another time.
For a surprise spectacular ending to our private and group time together, we had a dinner cruise on the Seine River. What a magical time and I highly recommend it. The food, setting, and views were incredible.
